For those wood arrow aficionado’s here is something of real interest. It’s a Booklet/DVD combo package of Bill Sweetland as he gives some history of the Forgewood Shaft, or better yet the “Compressed Cedar Arrow”. The Compressed Cedar Arrow is no longer made and pretty close to impossible to find now days. If you’ve ever wondered about how the process of compressing cedar arrows was accomplished this is just what you’ve been looking for. Bill is being filmed by Larry Jones in the early 80’s at a Traditional Archers of Oregon seminar. Bill passed away in the late 90’s and did his work in that area. This is great archery history here..
Personally were all lucky and should be thankful to all involved for documenting this bit of archery history. Dave Doran put this all together. Dave was the owner of “Archery Past” at the time of this filming. He has recently retired and sold his business.
Connie and I were invited up to the Traditional Archers of Oregon recently as guest speakers when we came across this bit of history. I brought the first package home and couldn’t take my eyes off of Bill as he was describing his methods of building what is without a doubt probably the best wooden arrows that have ever been made…..
I purchased a very limited supply of these companion pieces from Dave. If you would like to have a copy for your collection this is the place to get it.
This would make a great gift for that ole archer in your family….when there gone there gone…enjoy
